A traditional Japanese leather knife forged from Aogami Super (Blue Paper Super) steel. This legendary steel is well coveted as one of the greatest Japanese Carbon Steels. In addition to containing more Carbon, Chromium and Tungsten than Blue Steel No.1, it also includes Molybdenum. It has very good edge sharpness and excellent edge retention, but is also capable of attaining high hardness without being brittle. Consequently, many knife enthusiasts rate Aogami Super as one of the very best High Carbon Steels in the world.

Each knife is handcrafted by master blacksmiths in Tokyo that has painstakingly forged each blade with a  tsuchime finish. ( hammered finish) This unique hammered aesthetic is reminiscent of the handcrafting techniques of ancient Japan. On a side note, the finish provides a little more grip when you are holding the blade close to the cutting edge for very precise leather cutting work.

Each knife is carefully sharpened and finished before leaving the workshop, ensuring they are razor sharp and ready for use right out of the box. Through the sharpening process the subtle yet beautiful “Urasuki” is revealed on the back of the knife. “Urasuki” or “Ura” in short is the concave surface on the backside of the blade. This is specifically created to reduce friction when slicing through leather, especially useful during skiving work. (Check out the photo gallery to see the Ura revealed)

A pure brass internal ferrule has been fitted in each handle to prevent any splitting or cracking. The occasional gold glimmer near the blade tang reminds you of its presence. The handle is crafted from Magnolia wood as it provides ample grip while working with the knife and it will develop a gorgeous patina over time. It is a generally soft wood that allows crafters to further shape or shorten the handle to their own preferences easily.

This knife measurements are as follows:

Width  36mm at the cutting edge
